Students are not accepted for the MA in Anthropology alone, but the MA in Anthropology can be granted after two years of course work and satisfactory completion of the screening exams. There is a Masters Program in Visual Anthropology, open as a progressive degree to USC undergraduates majoring in Visual Anthropology and to students from other institutions with a background in Anthropology, ethnographic documentary production or cross-cultural visual studies. Students can be admitted to the certificate program in Visual Anthropology after they have completed their PhD qualifying examinations.

The department houses two important archives: The Jane Goodall Research Center, which collects primatology research data from the Gombe Stream in Tanzania, and the Ethnographics Archive/Lab which houses audiovisual and textual data from the Center for Visual Anthropology. The department also has Video production facilities, HRAF, Ethnographic Film Library
