Biography

<p>Jorge Garcia, Research Assistant Professor of Anthropology, received his B.S. and M.A. in Anthropology from the University of Central Florida and Ph.D. from the University of Florida. Professor Garcia grew up in Colombia where he gained an interest in precontact sites in South America. He has worked in multiple regions including archeological projects in the Bolivian Amazon, the Colombian Andes, the Pacific Coast of Ecuador, the Maya site of Caracol, Belize, and continues his work in cultural resources management in Florida, Mississippi, Vermont and various regions across Latin America. Dr. Garcia currently acts as a Researcher for UVM&rsquo;s Consulting Archeology Program (CAP). Prior to his current position at UVM, he served as Archeologist and Cultural Resources Specialist for the Department of Agriculture, Natural Resources Conservation Service in Mississippi and as professor of anthropology for Stetson University. In previous years he has also taught courses at the University of Central Florida and the University of Florida. At the University of Central Florida, he functioned as scholarship and financial advisor for study abroad programs where he helped develop international agreements with partner universities. Professor Garcia&rsquo;s academic interests include: Historical Ecology, Paleoclimate, Bone Biochemistry, Stable Isotope Analysis, Foodways/diet and Participatory Archeology in Latin America. He teaches courses in Archeology, Forensic Anthropology, and Laboratory methods in Bioarcheology.</p>
