Biography

David Young was born in the United States and spent his childhood in Sierra Leone, West Africa. He obtained a B.A. from the University of Indianapolis, a B.D. from Yale University, and M.A. from the University of Hawaii, and a Ph.D. from Stanford University. After obtaining his Ph.D. in 1970, David taught anthropology at the University of Alberta for 29 years. Upon retiring in 1999, he and his wife Michiko moved to Japan where David continued teaching anthropology at a Japanese university. The Youngs now live in Nanaimo, on Vancouver Island, off the west coast of Canada.
