For 2021, the Rutgers Archaeological Field School in Italy will have field dates from July 4 to July 31. This is an official study abroad summer program that trains undergraduate and graduate students in archaeological field skills and methods. Students earn 6 or 3 Rutgers credits. For 2021, we will be working on the Roman villa site near the village of Vacone, ca. 50 km north of Rome.
We accept undergraduate or graduate students as 3-credit interns who have had previous field experience and are interested in working on discrete projects feasible during the field season and with our materials. For example, in the past, we've taken students for osteological study-projects based on our human and faunal remains, for further conservation training on our mosaic floors and wall plaster, and for study of our concrete and masonry materials. Please contact Prof. Farney if you are interested in such an internship (gfarney@rutgers.edu).
