General Description / Special Programs

The Museum of Anthropological Archaeology is a research and collections unit of the UM College of Literature, Science and the Arts. Curators hold joint appointments in the Department of Anthropology. Curatorial research and ongoing institutional collaborations in Africa, Albania, China, Greece, India, Israel, Kosovo, Madagascar, Mexico, North America, Patagonia, Peru, Romania, Serbia and Syria. Undergraduate and graduate hands-on laboratory courses and advanced graduate courses are held in Museum as part of departmental program.

Program Details
Research Facilities <p>Facilities for Visiting Scholars: Space for study of the collections is available to visiting researchers in the various divisions of the Museum. Digital archives: more than 30,000 images available at www.lsa.umich.edu/ummaa/collections/onlineresources</p>
Collections Extensive archaeological collections from the Great Lakes, North America, Latin America, the Near East, Asia, and Europe, as well as archaeobiology (plants and animals relevant to humans).
Library Resources The Museum of Anthropological Archaeology library collection of about 6000 volumes is a unit of University Museum's library and part of the University Library. Holdings emphasize archaeology of North America and Latin America. Mesoamerican ethnohistory library. Most divisions contain research libraries of relevant materials.
Publications <p>Anthropological Papers of the Museum of Anthropology of the University of Michigan, 99 published; Memoirs of the Museum of Anthropology of the University of Michigan, 61 published; Electronic Series (CD-ROM), 3&nbsp;published (Director of Museum of Anthropology responsible for the publications). Occasional Contributions from the Museum of Anthropology of the University of Michigan, 16 numbers and Technical Reports of the Museum of Anthropology, 26 published.</p>
