Biography

I am an Associate Professor of Anthropology in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Metropolitan State University of Denver. As a cultural anthropologist, I trained in cultures of the Middle East and North Africa. In the courses I offer at MetroState, ranging from food cultures to religious narratives to Middle Eastern cultures to theory and methods in anthropology, I encourage students to learn about cultures from a holistic perspective. This includes relating one aspect of culture (such as environment and economy) to others (such as, religion and politics) and seeing contemporary cultures as everchanging products of history.

I am always excited to see students incorporate knowledge from cultural anthropology into their everyday work lives and research interests and encourage them to engage in internships and undergraduate research projects. The Ethnography Lab is certainly a great resource for students to work in collaboration with MSUDenver faculty and gain research experience for potential employment and graduate school.
