Field training in Hong Kong and South China. Archaeology MINOR. Cultural Heritage Studies MINOR. Undergraduate may opt for one of the 7 concentrations (1. Archaeology and Cultural Heritage 2. Tourism and Cultural Representation 3. Globalization, Economy and Power 4. Culture and Human Relations 5. Chinese Cultures and Societies 6. Values, Beliefs and Worldviews 7. Food, Health and the Body) and take part in the summer field trip outside of Hong Kong. Other exchange programs and scholarships available from Office of Student Affairs and New Asia College.

MA/ MS Requirements MA students complete 24 units in coursework. MPhil students complete 13 units in coursework, do intensive fieldwork and write a thesis, and pass a Portfolio Exam in a two-year program.

Phd Requirements Students are required to register for Directed Studies or Thesis in progress in each semester to assure contact and continuous evaluation by the supervisors. Students are required to submit a Research Proposal in order to pass written qualifying examination. After passing Qualifying Examinations, write a thesis based on long-term fieldwork. Students are expected to complete the program in three or four years.

Research Facilities Friday Seminar series featuring lectures by faculty, graduate students and visiting anthropologists; annual Anthropology Undergraduate Forum; Department Library holds publication/videos/slides on Hong Kong and China, postgraduate theses & field project reports; the Universities Service Centre has a complete set of national and provincial newspapers, periodicals and other valuable materials published in China since the late 1940s; regular lectures by international scholars on China; Dept has established the Centre for Cultural Heritage Studies (for details, please visit www.cuhk.edu.hk/ant/culturalheritage/).

Publications The Department edits and produces the journal 'Asian Anthropology' with the Taylor and Francis Group. Our postgraduates edit and publish 'Hong Kong Anthropologist' online.
