Support Opportunities

Undergraduate Research Opportunities (UROPs) through the Office of Undergraduate Research provide undergraduate students an opportunity to work directly with faculty on research projects. Undergraduates may apply for the Giles W. and Elise G. Mead Foundation Scholarship, the Christensen Scholarship, and tuition waivers annually.
Program Details
Research Facilities

Modern research facilities in the department include well-equipped teaching and research laboratories in archaeology, zooarchaeology, human osteology, paleoanthropology, isotopic analyses, human biology, and DNA analysis (modern and ancient). In addition, anthropology majors have access to various labs in the Utah Museum of Natural History including the anthropology conservation lab and microsopy lab. Interdisciplinary research utilizing GIS technologies through the DIGIT lab (Department of Geography) is also possible.
Collections Osteological Reference Collection - One of the largest collections in the Western US, 12th largest in North America for Number of types.The complete-skeleton collection is represented by over 4,100 specimens, including over 500 fish, 700 reptiles and amphibians, 1,200 birds, and 1,700 mammals. This is complemented by more than 30,000 mammal skulls and skins held in the main NHMU collection. The Human osteological reference collection and paleoanthropolgy cast collection. The human osteological reference collection includes complete and fragmentary skeletal remains and is primarily used for teaching. The Archaeology Collection is home to objects from some of North America's most significant dry cave sites including Danger, Hogup, Cowboy, and Promontory caves and includes items collected form over 3,800 sites. The Ethnographic Collection includes over 3,000 historic Native American objects from Utah's native people. The Paleontology collections comprise nearly 30,000 specimens, including over 20,000 vertebrate, 5,000 paleobotanical, and 2,000 invertebrate fossils.

Anthropology Club Info: The Antropology Club is a community for all majors, minors, and those interested in the field of anthropology at large. Our goal is to create a better community by helping students to learn more about the field, socialize, and create networks. Our activities are informal, and always a good time. We visit museums, tour labs, travel to field sites, and hold weekly coffee hours.
