General Description / Special Programs

Brockport promotes applications of anthropology in careers immediately after graduation and in postgraduate training within and outside of anthropology. Majors are encouraged to gain hands-on experience through internships, independent study, summer fieldwork, and overseas study/internships. The department offers a 6-credit field school in archaeology (local and international), 3-6 credits of Anthropology internship, and service learning courses. Majors' classes are small with a heavy emphasis on individualized research and training in the senior year. We collaborate with the History Department to offer a Museum Studies and Public History minor and with the Criminal Justice Dept. to support our new Community Justice major and a Forensic Sciences minor.
