General Description / Special Programs

An integrated program in sociology and anthropology. All senior majors are required to prepare theses. The department offers independent reading and tutorial programs, and sponsors courses jointly with the departments of Black Studies, Educational Studies, Environmental Studies, Latin American and Latino Studies, Linguistics, Peace and Conflict Studies, Religion, and Education.

All majors housed in Sociology and Anthropology are required to complete at least eight units in the department. Of the eight units the following five are required: Foundations-Culture, Power, and Meaning; Foundations- Self, Culture, and Society; at least one designated methods course, and a 2-credit senior thesis.
