Students train in all subfields of the discipline. Specialization is under the direction of the faculty in whose competence the specialty falls. The department cooperates and works in conjunction with multidisciplinary university programs (eg, Southeast Asia, Black Studies, Environment, Nonprofit and NGO, Cognitive, Latino and Latin American Studies, and Women, Gender and Sexuality).

The James B. and Rosalyn L. Pick Museum of Anthropology, well-equipped labs, extensive primate and human skeletal collections, ethnographic material, instruments, tools, field equipment, teaching material and a 12,000 artifact museum collection.
