Biography

Dr. Verónica Pérez-Rodríguez employs an ecological and historical perspective in her research, to study social complexity, urbanism, and agriculture in Mesoamerica. By looking beyond the single archaeological site and instead focusing on settlement patterns, regions, and the surrounding landscape, she is able to look at large-scale spatial and temporal patterns of social organization, land use, and their environmental impacts. Between January and September 2022, she continued to direct excavations at Cerro Jazim, in the Mixteca Alta region of Oaxaca.
